It’s fair to say that Serena Williams hasn’t let herself go since retiring from tennis. The all-time great, who won 23 Grand Slam titles, played her final at the US Open three years ago, where she lost a three-set marathon to Ajla Tomljanovic.
Following the defeat, she bid an emotional farewell to fans at Flushing Meadows. She’s since resisted the urge to return, and in August 2023, gave birth to her second child. However, judging by her latest Instagram post, the 43-year-old is determined to stay in shape.
On Friday, she shared a series of pictures from her latest gym workout on Instagram. Looking toned with chiselled abs, her caption read: “Working out and working on my angles.”
During her playing career, Williams was renowned for her muscular frame and overpowering opponents. She now cuts a leaner figure, posting a video in January last year underlining her determination to lose weight.

“Alright, I’m getting back into the swing of things,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion said in an Instagram Reel. “This is not my usual weight, but it’ll do until I get back to where I need to be.”
The fitness update comes as older sister Venus prepares for her latest return to the WTA Tour. The 45-year-old has accepted a wildcard for the DC Open in Washington, her first tour match since March 2024.
“There’s something truly special about DC, the energy, the fans, the history,” she said after her entry was announced. “This city has always shown me so much love, and I can’t wait to compete there again.”
Venus is a seven-time Slam winner in her own right. However, last year she didn’t enter any of the four major events for the first time since her professional career began in 1997.
