Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has revealed his shock at seeing Danny Rohl return to Sheffield Wednesday, after the German reiterated his desire to depart Hillsborough.
Rohl had previously admitted back at the start of June in an interview with the German newspaper Bild that he wanted a return to the Bundesliga “as quick as possible”.
Throughout the summer, Rohl was linked with jobs at RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen, as well as the Leicester City, Middlesbrough and Southampton vacancies, but none of those have led to a move, leaving the ex-Bayern Munich coach without an exit route from South Yorkshire.

And, in a dramatic turn of events, Rohl is said to be returning to the Owls to lead the team for the upcoming season, which has reportedly led to more unrest within the playing squad.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has admitted his surprise at seeing Danny Rohl return to Sheffield Wednesday given all the uncertainty that continues to cloud the club.
Hendrie told FLW: “Yeah, really shocked at that with the current situation and the rumours that are flying around the football club.
“Obviously, players leaving, not getting paid, you do feel that it is a big shot because he’s (Rohl) been touted with links for lots of jobs and to do a U-turn, you think to yourself there must be something more that surrounds it, which might be a positive thing for Sheffield Wednesday Danny Rohl.
“I’m really shocked, really shocked, and I thought he was nailed on to move on and go elsewhere.”

Danny Rohl won’t be someone who will be welcomed back with open arms to Sheffield Wednesday.
The German has persisted with claims to the media about his desire to leave the club, showing he is someone who is far from committed to the cause.
Whether his return is linked to a takeover emerging remains to be seen, but it appears that with no other options on the table, he has little choice but to come back.
