Sheffield Wednesday are entering a potentially positive period after weathering a storm, with several players poised to leave Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday were hit with three separate embargoes amid their ongoing financial problems, but it appears Dejphon Chansiri’s time at the club could be coming to an end.

Three parties are pushing ahead with a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday, and Francesco Guardascione is one name pursuing the Owls.

News of a potential takeover advancing came after it was revealed that Danny Rohl is set to stay at Hillsborough, with the German performing a U-turn on his original decision.

But for all of the positive updates being shared, the Yorkshire outfit have just sold one of their best players.

It was revealed last week that Chansiri was planning a ‘fire sale’, sacrificing the club’s highest valued players to raise invaluable funds.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba, Wednesday’s two dangerous wingers, are the first to be sacrificed.

While Gassama is closing in on a £2.5 million transfer to Rangers, Musaba has joined Samsunspor on a four-year contract, as confirmed by the club’s official X channel.

Speaking before wrapping up a deal for the 24-year-old, Samsunspor president Yüksel Yıldırım said: “Anthony Musaba is a very technically advanced player. We are very happy to have signed such a player. He will undergo a medical tomorrow. On Saturday, we will sign the contract together. Then, our player will depart for Samsun.”

The electric Dutch winger will be a huge miss for Wednesday after lighting up the Championship with 10 goals and 11 assists in 72 appearances.

Supporters will be hoping that a takeover will result in the club sourcing a replacement for Musaba, who recorded nine goal involvements in 2024/25.

Sheffield Wednesday could lose 23 goals from 2024/25

A mass exodus of players could leave Wednesday, and with transfer restrictions in place, already it’s looking like an uphill battle to stay in the Championship in 2025/26.

Top scorer Josh Windass is poised to exit Sheffield Wednesday, which would see him leave behind 13 goals from last season.

Gassama’s pending departure to Rangers means another seven goals would need replacing, along with the three scored by Musaba, leaving a void of 23 strikes.

That doesn’t even include assists, with the above trio recording 12 assists between them. Indeed, they were involved in over half of Wednesday’s goals last term and that will worry supporters.
