Meghan Markle’s new rosé wine has been criticized as “bland” in its initial tasting. Daily Mail correspondent Jane Herz reported the sampling experience after the wine arrived at the publication’s New York office, where fellow reporters eagerly sampled Meghan’s latest venture.
The product went on sale on July 1 and sold out in less than an hour, with customers having the option to buy bundles of three bottles for $90, six for $159, or twelve for $300.
The wine, named As Ever, is crafted by Fairwinds Estate, a Californian winery popular with numerous celebrities.
Boasting 14.5 percent alcohol content per 750ML bottle, As Ever rosé’s label promises a “delicately balanced rosé with soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish.”
Herz noted in her critique: “Our first sip left a lot to be desired, as it honestly didn’t taste like much. The wine was smooth, but we couldn’t easily detect the notes of stone fruit.”
She continued to express disappointment with the taste, describing it as “bland, watered-down, yet ironically acidic, and resembling the potency of a stronger alcoholic wine”.
Some colleagues even mentioned a “somewhat uncomfortable sensation at the back of our throats after swallowing”, reports the Express.
In summation, she expressed, “It’s not bad, but it’s not great. Overall, it was pretty commonplace, like a wine you would be served at a work happy hour.”

Following the sell-out, Meghan expressed her gratitude on her As Ever Instagram account, posting, “Still soaking it in —feeling endlessly grateful. Cheers to what’s ahead!”
This comes as some claimed Meghan was trying to “steal Princess Diana’s legacy” by releasing her wine on what would have been her mother-in-law’s birthday.
Royal commentator and podcaster Kinsey Schofield has criticized the move as “cruel”, especially given the significance of the date to Prince Harry as he remembers his beloved mother.
Speaking to The Sun, Schofield remarked: “As Meghan is doing victory laps around the kitchen, excited for this launch, Harry is still thinking about the mother he lost, the mother that he loved, the mother that he talks to us about constantly.”
She added, “This is still a tough day for Prince Harry, too. Let’s be honest, Meghan has spent years framing herself as Diana’s spiritual successor.”
Schofield also expressed her belief that Meghan, who stepped back from Royal duties with Harry in 2020, is actively trying to “hijack” the enduring legacy of Princess Diana, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997 in Paris.
