Sparklight confirms an outage at its Nampa facility, impacting many customers in the Treasure Valley. In an update, KTVB learns that HVAC was to blame.
MERIDIAN, Idaho — The city of Meridian took to Facebook Thursday morning to alert the public of an internet outage impacting customers.
The internet provider Sparklight is experiencing an outage at its Nampa facility, which is impacting many throughout the Treasure Valley.
In an 8:40 a.m. update from Sparklight, KTVB learns that an HVAC issue caused the internet outage. The Nampa Sparklight office is closed on Thursday, so crews can assess and work. The Boise office remains open and is located at 8400 Westpark Street. Sparklight reports that technicians remain on-site to repair affected equipment.
Then, in a 9:55 a.m. update, Sparklight shared some “encouraging news.” They said that cooling efforts in its facility are starting to pay off, and conditions are improving. This allows technicians to begin bringing services back online.
They also note that this issue is only impacting the customers in the service areas west of Boise.
“We truly appreciate your continued patience and support and will keep you posted as we make more progress,” said Sparklight on Facebook.
Shortly after 11:15 a.m., a statement was provided to KTVB regarding the outage. Trish Niemann, spokesperson for CableOne, provided a statement to KTVB regarding what happened on Thursday:
“Early this morning, our data center experienced a disruption when the controller for the HVAC system lost communication. As a result, all air conditioning units went into fail-safe mode due to the lack of input from the controller.
Our on-site personnel responded immediately, and we engaged our vendor partner to begin repairs as quickly as possible. To stabilize the environment and get customers back up and running as quickly as possible, we deployed temporary redundant cooling systems using portable AC units.
As a result of these efforts, approximately 75% of impacted customers are back online at this time. Unless any equipment is found to be damaged, we expect to restore service to all remaining customers shortly.
We understand the frustration our customers have experienced due to this outage and appreciate their patience and understanding as we work to safely restore service. We sincerely apologize for the disruption and remain committed to doing everything we can to keep our customers connected.”
Some are asking about a Sparklight internet outage affecting customers in our area.
