Arthur Hull is one of Australia’s hottest rising stars and he brings his award winning debut solo show FLOP to the Gilded Balloon (8.45pm Appleton Tower) for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025.

Born in Edinburgh (named after Arthur’s Seat and the statue of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which sat at the top of Broughton Street where his parents lived) Arthur moved to Australia when he was aged two.

The neon lights don’t always shine bright on Broadway and in FLOP, Arthur uncovers some of the best songs from the worst musicals ever written. From commercial and critical failures to obscure and forgotten gems, he sets out to prove that every musical can be proud of at least one song. Maybe.

Despite the high disaster count, FLOP is ultimately a love letter to musicals. Arthur Hull, on keyboards and vocals, brings his own unique interpretation to a range of songs, from big ballads to big dance numbers. His easy charm and love of the genre always shine through, even when riffing on the most misguided misfires.

A surprise hit and Judge’s Pick at the 2024 Melbourne Fringe, FLOP has wowed the crowds at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, winning the coveted Best Emerging Artist Award, on its way to engagements at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

In 2024, Arthur Hull was awarded first prize at the Australian National Busking Championships. He received wide praise and over 4 million social media views for his performances on Channel 7’s The Voice, reaching Adam Lambert’s Top 3. In 2023, Arthur graduated from the world-famous Flying Fruit Fly Circus after 10 years of training, and performances at the Sydney Opera House, festivals and venues around the country.
