A murderer who attacked his ex then roped his family in to help him get away with it is amongst those who have been jailed this week in Greater Manchester.
Dean Johnstone attacked Karen Youdell before dragging her into a house. His two sisters, Lisa Johnstone and Yvonne Johnstone, and another man, Glenn Nelson, then dumped her outside next to a bottle of cider, then lied to the police about how they found her.
All have now been jailed for their part in her death.
Also locked up this week is a speeding hit-and-run killer and a dangerous rapist who subjected a young child to years of abuse.
Prison terms are handed out to the worst offenders, and Manchester Evening News are on hand to cover the most serious cases.
Here is a roundup of this week’s cases before our regions courts:

A ‘dangerous’ paedophile raped a young child and subjected them to years of sick sexual abuse.
Odday El-Saddi attacked his victim on multiple occasions over a three-year period, Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday (July 7).
The 48-year-old, of Regency Square, Warrington, has now been brought to justice.
But police say El-Saddi has failed to show any remorse – instead forcing his victim to ‘relive the experiences in court’.
El-Saddi has now been sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Suaiel Riaz Haider(Image: GMP)
A paedophile who picked up his victim from school and plied her with alcohol before raping her has been jailed following a historical investigation.
Suaiel Riaz Haider groomed and abused the teenage girl in the early 2000’s when she was 15 and he was aged 19, a court heard.
He provided her with lifts from school, food, cigarettes and alcohol. Their relationship then ‘quickly turned sexual’, Greater Manchester Police said.
He began making derogatory comments towards her, which then progressed to sexual offences. The victim bravely came forward to police in 2021 to report Suaiel’s crimes.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges he faced, subjecting the victim to a trial where she was forced to give evidence, and throughout he continued to deny all offences until the jury found him guilty.
Haider, now aged 43, of Mosley Avenue, Bury, was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Manchester Crown Court on Monday (July 7) after being found guilty of two counts of rape of a girl under the age of 16 and four counts of indecent assault.

Louie Baguley(Image: GMP)
A speeding hit-and-run driver who killed a much-loved father-of-two in an early hours crash has been jailed. Louie Baguley, 37, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Andrew Morris, 46, by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.
A court heard he ‘abandoned’ the car he was driving then told the owner to report it as stolen. She did and was subsequently arrested, but was later found to be ‘fully innocent’ after what Baguley had done came to light.
Mr Morris, from Stockport, died in hospital on March 14, 2023 as ‘a direct result of injuries caused’ in the collision on the A6 Buxton Road in Great Moor, Stockport, on February 18, 2023.
Judge Joanne Woodward jailed Baguley for seven years and banned him from the road for eight-and-a-half years. She said he had admitted to having been distracted by talking with passengers in the car.

These are the faces of a murderer and his associates who tried to help him get away with it.
Dean Johnstone brutally murdered his ex-partner Karen Youdell after repeatedly stamping and jumping on her head and torso. She had turned up at the house in Newton Heath where he was living with his new partner. The 50-year-old suffered grave injuries and was left in a coma, dying 10 months later.
Her devastated family told how they lost her ‘twice’, with their final memories of her being in a vegetative state before her life support was turned off.
After the killing, in the early hours of July 29, 2023, Johnstone called his sister Lisa Johnstone. Over the next few hours, Lisa Johnstone, her partner Glenn Nelson and Johnstone’s other sister Yvonne Johnstone tried to cover up the killing.
Efforts were made to clean the house, and Ms Youdell, a 50-year-old mum-of-four, was moved inside the house and then outside again. Nelson suggested a bottle of cider be placed next to her, so they could claim that she had been drinking.
Yvonne Johnstone called 999 and lied to the operator, claiming she had just found a woman on the street. But prosecutors were able to disprove the lies and uncover the truth.
Dean Johnstone, 44, pleaded guilty to murder, while Nelson and the Johnstone sisters were all locked up after admitting perverting the course of justice.

A rapist repeatedly attacked a woman and then fled to Ireland in a cowardly bid to evade police, a court has heard.
Sultan Amjad subjected his victim to several incidents of non-consensual sexual assaults in September of last year, which she later reported to the police.
Police told of how Amjad subjected her to an ’emotionally and physically abusive relationship’ where she was also ‘manipulated financially and degraded’ by him.
After the offences were reported, Sultan then fled to Ireland where he was later arrested after being circulated as a wanted person. He was charged with rape and hauled before the courts.
Amjad, aged 23, of Kirkmanshulme Lane, in Longsight, Manchester was sentenced to four-and-a-half years for rape. He was also given a five-year restraining order against his victim.

Two thugs left a man in intensive care after driving him to the woods, beating him up and attempting to set him alight.
Toby Collens, 25, and Brodie Smith, 18, have both been jailed for their part in a horrific kidnapping. The next thing their victim remembered was waking up in hospital.
Mark Williams recalled being bundled into their car outside his home in Little Hulton before being driven to some nearby woods where he was attacked. He was then brought back to his flat, where he suffered another beating as his attackers threatened to cut his ear off with some scissors, Manchester Crown Court heard.
His attackers only left after Mr Williams’ girlfriend promised to pay them £400. Both Collens and Smith have been locked up.
