Coronation Street spoilers follow from Wednesday’s episode (16 July), which is available to watch now on ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Coronation Street has hinted that Gary Windass’s dark side could return after his ordeal with Lou Michaelis.
Gary makes an ominous comment to his wife Maria Connor in tonight’s episode, reflecting on the calmer approach he’s taken to life over the past few years.
Wednesday’s visit to the cobbles explores the ongoing fallout from Lou putting Gary in a coma.
With loose ends still to tie up, Gary admits to Maria that Lou tried to kiss him shortly before the attack incident.

Maria is horrified to learn that Lou tried to blackmail Gary by threatening to make false allegations of an affair.
As far as Maria’s concerned, it doesn’t say much for their marriage that Gary kept it a secret, as well as storming out to stay with his mum rather than properly dealing with the situation.
Later, during a tense family dinner back at home, Gary’s teenage stepson Liam tries to lighten the mood with some banter. Much to Maria’s disapproval, Liam teases Gary for being attacked by a woman.
Maria calls out Liam for being sexist, but Gary appears to take the comment in good humour.

Once they’re alone, though, Gary hints that he’s taken the remark – and the wider Lou situation – to heart and will be making changes from now on…
He says: “There’s nothing I could do. She had a weapon, she came at me from behind. I don’t know, I just find this hard, you know?
“I know it’s not my fault and I know it’s probably just pride talking but it’s got me thinking a bit. These last few years, how I’ve let people walk all over me a bit?”
Maria dismisses Gary’s comments and he swiftly backtracks, but it’s clear that the issue is still playing on his mind…

Corrie fans know that Gary’s time on the show has been a rollercoaster, as he was introduced as a bad lad, redeemed himself, briefly became the show’s new supervillain and then turned nicer again.
With Gary now seeming to regret that last decision, it’s anyone’s guess where his character could be heading next…
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
