A British expat living in Benidorm has declared the famous party destination is “finished”, claiming holidaymakers are being “priced out” and heading to cheaper Spanish alternatives. Harry Poulton, a TikTok content creator renowned for offering travel tips about the popular resort, indicated in a recent video that Benidorm is observing unusually quiet streets this summer.
In a clip that has garnered more than 125,000 views, he suggested that the city’s escalating prices were a possible explanation for its downturn in popularity. “[Is] Benidorm finished? Where is everybody? It’s the middle of July, and it’s absolutely dead,” Harry declared.

“Normally at this time of year, Benidorm’s mentality – it’s busy, there are people absolutely everywhere,” the 24-year-old Brighton native continued.
Harry also mentioned that he’d recently visited the beach and found it virtually deserted. “I’ve been down the Benidorm strip; hardly anyone there,” he said, as reported by Luxury Travel Daily.
“Bars [aren’t] even that busy – what’s going on? Is everyone going to Tenerife now? I’ve only been away a week.”
Harry also voiced his surprise at the absence of crowds, pointing out that even during typical busy periods around 7pm, the streets remain eerily quiet.
His remarks have triggered numerous theories amongst TikTok users, with one commenting: “Have to say hotels are getting more and more expensive. Crazy prices.”
Meanwhile, another peculated on the whereabouts of the absent tourists. “Everyone is going to Salou, Spain,” they claimed. A third person concurred: “It’s got too expensive.”
A fourth TikTok user expressed their frustration: “People are fed up with being robbed, mate [sic].”
Meanwhile a fifth had their say on the rising costs: “Getting too expensive. Used to be my go-to holiday. However, I cannot afford Benidorm this year. Other Spanish places half the price.”

In a separate video, meanwhile, Harry voiced his annoyance at the escalating prices in the city. He stated emphatically: “Benidorm is getting expensive. Everything this year has gone so much more than last year. I’m not the only one that feels this way.”
Responding to a follower who had shelled out nearly £1,000 for a week’s stay in a single room, Harry empathised: “Ouch, that’s got to hurt. Don’t get me wrong – eating out, drinking, all those sorts of things are still very reasonable, especially price-wise compared to the UK.
“Everything has got really expensive; not just in Benidorm, but in general.”
He concluded with a contemplative note: “Is Benidorm falling off? Or is it just the world in general? Mad, really – what are holidays? What’s a cheap holiday now?”
