Stocks picked up momentum in midday trading, with the Nasdaq looking to lock in its 10th record close for 2025.

The S&P 500 was up 0.5%, while the Dow was up 179 points, or 0.4%. The Nasdaq led the market higher, up 0.7%.

The S&P 500’s current levels indicate it may close at a record for the 9th time this year, rivaling the Nasdaq’s record streak.

The only S&P 500 sectors trading lower today are real estate, health care and communication services. All other sectors are marking healthy gains, led by tech stocks.

Christopher Waller is scheduled to speak after the market close on the U.S. economic outlook and monetary policy. He’s among the folks mentioned to replace Jerome Powell, though betting markets think he’s the least likely alternative.
