Shawn Porter has spoken out for the final time ahead of Manny Pacquiao’s sensational return to the ring.
The 46-year-old Filipino icon is set to challenge reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios this Saturday july 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao has been out of the ring since suffering a shock defeat to former WBA world welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas in June of 2021, before going on to announce his retirement from the sport a few months after to focus on his career as a politician.
In an interview with Fight Hype, two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter shared his thoughts on Pacquiao’s shock comeback to the sport having watched the 46-year-old train, believing Barrios has ‘the perfect style’ for ‘PacMan’.
“He’s really convinced himself that even though he’s been playing basketball and badminton and you know all these other things that he stayed in shape enough to come back to the game, I watched him train like last week or the week before and amazing to see him still move and bounce and do all the same things that he was doing in camp years ago when I was with him … I think he’s healthy, I think he’s going to be strong and you know what they say. the last thing to go is that power, Mario Barrios has the perfect style for him.”
Should be be victorious over ‘El Azteca’ on Saturday night, ‘PacMan’ will write his name into the boxing history books once again by becoming the oldest world welterweight champion of all time, breaking the record he set 6-years-ago when he dethroned former WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman at 40-years-old.
