22-year-old Oscar Onley finds himself in the podium fight at the Tour de France

The Scottish youngster is in sixth overall after putting some big names into the rearview mirror on the Hautacam.

When Picnic-PostNL announced its Tour de France roster a few weeks ago, the team made it clear that they were heading to the race to “hunt stage success.” Twelve days into the race, however, Oscar Onley finds himself sitting sixth overall, and after he summited the Hautacam ahead of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick-Step) on Thursday, it’s fair to wonder whether even the overall podium could even be a possibility for the 22-year-old Scot.

“We always said we weren’t going to throw time away. We weren’t going to drop time purposely, but if we did lose time, then we were focusing on the stages as the main goal,” team coach Matt Winston said after stage 12.

“After the time trial tomorrow, I think, we’ll make a real assessment.”
