Josh Windass’ departure at Sheffield Wednesday has been confirmed, and less than a day later, he has already done one thing to ‘respect’ the Owls fans.

Sheffield Wednesday’s summer continues to go from bad to worse.

As the hopeful speed behind a potential takeover came to a grinding halt, Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has decided to sell several first-team stars.

Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba have both left the club for minimal fees, which has led to Sheffield Wednesday fans reacting negatively. Since then, Michael Smith and Josh Windass have also left the club by mutual termination of their contracts.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost their top scorer in Windass, and whilst there is uncertainty on the grounds which led to his contract coming to an end, he has since done one thing following his departure.

It was reported that, earlier this summer, Josh Windass had handed in his 15-day notice at Sheffield Wednesday after not being paid for two months by Dejphon Chansiri.

There is plenty of ambiguity around Windass’ departure, with it also suggested that he was fully paid before the 15 days. The Owls striker was handed the opportunity to explain his departure on TalkSPORT, however, he decided to show his class by taking an alternative route.

Reporter Alex Crook posted on X: “We asked the departing Josh Windass to join us on TalkSPORT this morning to discuss the club’s plight.

“He declined out of respect to Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Crook then took aim at Chansiri, whom he has pointed his finger towards for the catastrophic issues facing Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

“If only the unscrupulous owner running a once great club into the ground has the same respect. The EFL have to act now.”

Josh Windass’ departure will significantly hinder the Owls this season

Only last summer, Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass was attracting interest from Championship clubs, with West Brom notably showing a keenness to attain the forward. Even Brazilian club Santos had eyes on Windass.

After a prolific season at Hillsborough, where he finished as Sheffield Wednesday’s top scorer, it was hoped that he would either stay at the club or alternatively be sold for a decent fee to then be reinvested into the squad.

However, the situation that Dejphon Chansiri has overseen has led to them losing their top scorer for nothing. Amid the clear intent of selling the key assets in the squad, he left one of the most valuable players with the option to walk away scot-free.

No one can blame Windass, as well as Michael Smith, for making such a decision, but unfortunately, it further emphasises the issues at stake at the club.
