Manchester United are in pre-season action for the first time this summer when they take on Leeds United this afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden.
In Ruben Amorim’s first pre-season at the club, the focus will be on improving on last season. United finished 15th in the Premier League and suffered defeat in the Europa League final to conclude their worst campaign in 51 years.
Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon could be in contention to feature for the first time since their summer moves. There’s hope that Bryan Mbeumo will follow them through the door next week as United push for further reinforcements.
With that in mind, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest transfer news…
Estupinan bid rejected
Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Pervis Estupinan has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer but AC Milan have made their first move to sign him.
According to talkSPORT, the Italian side have had their first bid turned down by the Seagulls. It’s also been reported from Italian journalist Matteo Moretto that Estupinan has told Brighton that he wants to join a ‘foreign’ club.
Milan are looking to replace Theo Hernandez after his move to Al Hilal this window.
MEN Sport says: “United face missing out on Estupinan this summer and they may have no choice but to accept it. The focus being on Mbeumo and a striker means Jason Wilcox hasn’t been able to focus on other positions.
“They aren’t desperate for a new left wing-back, it’s rather a luxury signing instead of a necessity. Brighton turning down Milan’s opening bid does keep the door open but it seems unlikely.”
Sesko move accelerating
A Reds move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is intensifying this summer, according to reports. After missing out on Viktor Gyokeres ot Arsenal, United are back to square one in their hunt for a new centre-forward.
Sesko has emerged as a possible candidate to come in and GiveMeSport have reported that he would be open to a move. The report states that Sesko ‘wants’ the move to United with the club ‘admirers of Sesko’s all-round game and believe his style would suit the Premier League’.
Even better is that the report adds that Sesko would ‘favour’ a move over others
MEN Sport says: “A front three of Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko would put United in a great position to shine this season. Whether or not they can actually afford to bring the RB Leipzig ace in remains a different story.
“Sesko would improve United. However, the recruitment team at Old Trafford need to act quick to get this one over the line. They need a striker before the new season and if Leipzig prove to be difficult to negotiate with, it could be the wrong time.”
