The Nasio Trust, based in Abingdon, has published the books as part of its Global Storybook Project.

The project invites children to write and illustrate stories around shared themes like favourite heroes and animals.

Through this creative writing, it aims to foster a friendship between students from different backgrounds, whilst increasing access to reading resources in rural Kenya through the establishment of a public library.

The storybook scheme has connected children from five Oxfordshire schools and several schools in rural Kenya by publishing their themed stories in an anthology.

The money raised from the sale of the books will go towards building the first community library in western Kenya.

The five Oxfordshire schools involved in the project were Windmill Primary School in Headington, Abingdon Prep School, St Frideswide’s Primary School in Cowley, Sunningwell School, and Wolvercote Primary School.

The project was also supported by Oxfordshire author Sylvia Vetta and illustrator Korky Paul.

Sylvia Vetta said: “The project is more than just a collection of stories, it’s a celebration of imagination and a testament to the power of young voices.”

Books can be purchased for £10 by emailing info@thenasiotrust.org

The student-authors also spoke at the Oxford Indie Book Fair on July 13 at Magdalen College School.
