Aidan O’Brien may be responsible for 11 of the 27 entries for the Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but the Ballydoyle maestro could rely on just two runners when taking on the all-powerful Field Of Gold.

O’Brien’s principal hope will likely be the progressive French 2,000 Guineas winner Henri Matisse, second to the Juddmonte juggernaut in the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot, while Sunday’s Minstrel Stakes victor Diego Velazquez will also be considered for the race.

Henri Matisse finished three and a half lengths behind John and Thady Gosden’s star last month, but he will renew battle with his Ascot conqueror later this month in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
