If Salford Red Devils don’t have enough to worry about in 2025, there are a whole host of players off-contract for next season too.
There is a mixture of experience and youth, with a Super League stalwart available for 2026, as well as a bunch of talented youngsters, who’ve arguably got more game time in 2025 than they were probably expecting.
Despite the issues that Salford have had both on and off the field this season, many of these players have stepped up when required, whether they’re just starting their professional careers or their rugby league careers are coming to an end.
With twelve players at least up for grabs, we’ve broken down which Salford Red Devils players are out of contract for next season.
Twelve Salford Red Devils out of contract in 2025
Nathan Connell
The 22-year-old winger has featured in fifteen games so far this season, moving between starting on the wing and at fullback. Whilst it might not be perhaps his idea of the perfect debut season, he’s stepped up when required, and he’s getting some much-needed game time.
Chris Hankinson
In fourteen games this season, Hankinson has featured in just about every position across the backline, and in recent weeks, he’s featured in the centres, with either Jonny Vaughan or Ethan Ryan. Whilst he might not be the youngest at 31, he’s getting towards the end of his career. However, he could add some experience to a side looking for an outside back.
Chris Hill
At 37, Hill is coming to the end of his career. However, he’s been one of Salford’s best performers in recent weeks, especially stepping up and setting an example to an inexperienced squad. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he decided to retire at the end of the season, considering both his age and the stresses of being at the club in 2025.
Matty Foster
The 24-year-old joined the Red Devils from St Helens last season before spending some time out on loan to Swinton Lions. In 2025, he’s featured fourteen times in various positions in the pack. With such versatility, he could certainly be an asset to any Super League pack.
Ben Hellewell
The veteran forward has been out of the side for most of the season, due to salary cap restrictions, with just four games under his belt. Having not featured since round ten, Hellewell is likely to leave the club at the end of the season. At 33, he could contribute to a Championship side with an inexperienced pack.
Loghan Lewis
Lewis has managed just thirty seconds of game time in 2025, coming off the bench against Castleford Tigers last week and going off almost as soon as he entered the field, following a failed HIA. He could make a return to Australia and feature in their reserve grade competition, because at just 22, he has plenty of time to make his way into the NRL.
Joe Mellor
Mellor has been in and out of the side in 2025, due to injury, but did return in Salford’s win over Castleford Tigers last week. If there’s a player who the Red Devils should try to hold on to, purely for his versatility, it should be Mellor, but he could also be on the hunt for his seventh club.
Kai Morgan
One player who has stepped up in the face of Salford’s adversity is Morgan. Asked to play at fullback, in the halves and at hooker, the 21-year-old has played thirteen times and has looked a bright spark at times. He could certainly develop elsewhere, but would probably get less game time.
Jayden Nikorima
Having missed just six games for the Red Devils in 2025, Salford have come to rely heavily on Nikorima, especially in their two Super League victories. However, it seems unlikely that he’ll stay, but could return down under if that’s a priority.
Jack Ormondroyd
Another player who’s played out of his skin in 2025 is Ormondroyd. Other than missing round one, he’s featured in every game for Salford this season as a starting prop. At 33, he’s coming to the end of his career, but his efforts could definitely get him a one-year deal elsewhere for 2026.
Jamie Pye
Pye has spent the 2025 season on a dual-registration loan at Barrow Raiders, but did feature for the Red Devils in round seven back in April. It’s unlikely that he’ll remain at Salford, but he could easily earn himself a contract at a Championship club.
Harvey Wilson
Wilson joined Salford in May 2024 from Wigan Warriors and has featured sixteen times for the Red Devils so far this season. At 21, he’s probably played more games than he might have expected in 2025, but he could be a key player for Salford in the future if they can keep hold of him.
