€8 million grant will support deployment of renewable hydrogen infrastructure by the Enagás subsidiary along key European corridors.

Scale Green Energy, a subsidiary of Spanish energy company Enagás, has received more than €8 million in European Union funding to deploy a network of renewable hydrogen refueling stations across Spain. The grant, awarded under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (AFIF), follows the signing of the Grant Agreement for the ECOhynet project approved by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

With this agreement, the European Commission has approved 100% of the funding requested by Scale Green Energy. The ECOhynet initiative will see the construction of six hydrogen refueling stations, each with a daily capacity of 1,000 kilograms and strategically located along the Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

The total investment in the project exceeds €26.7 million and will support the supply of renewable hydrogen at pressures of 350 and 700 bar, serving both light and heavy-duty vehicles. Through ECOhynet, Scale Green Energy aims to implement a cross-sectoral platform strategy for renewable hydrogen mobility in Spain, involving collaboration across various companies and segments of the hydrogen value chain.

The CEF mechanism for alternative fuels infrastructure is a key tool in the EU’s strategy to accelerate the rollout of electric charging and hydrogen refueling stations across major transport corridors and hubs. It also aligns with broader EU goals under the ReFuelEU regulation aimed at decarbonizing maritime and aviation sectors.
