Police in Edinburgh have received recent reports regarding individuals approaching residences and claiming to represent a telecommunications company.
These individuals may request sensitive information, such as payment details, or ask you to scan a QR code in order to update your broadband router.
Officers have issued the following advice.
Please be cautious and verify the identity of anyone attending at your door.
If they are legitimate they will be happy to wait outside whilst you confirm they are whom they say they are.
Only let callers in if they have an appointment and you have confirmed they are genuine. Always ask for ID
Do not call a number provided by them use one which is confirmed as the companies contact number.
Call 101 to report any suspicious activity. If you feel scared or threatened call 999 and ask for the police.
