There’s nothing better than crawling into a cozy home at the end of a long day and settling in for a nap. At least, that’s what one brushtail possum in Australia thought until he sorely realized he couldn’t make it past the front door.

While trying to nudge his way into a bird nesting box last week, the fluffy possum found himself wedged in the small opening. The more he tried to pry his way through the hole, the more lodged he became.
When the Fyshwick division of ACT Wildlife arrived shortly after, the tiny intruder was still stuck and even more disgruntled than before.

The team quickly realized that they wouldn’t be able to pull the possum, later named Bob, out without hurting him, so they devised a more elaborate plan.
“Bob had to be brought down, still stuck in the wood panel, sedated by a vet and extracted from the wood,” ACT Wildlife wrote on Facebook.

While the ACT Wildlife team was dismayed by seeing Bob trapped in the nesting box, they weren’t surprised. Bob’s native home is at risk, and he was likely looking for shelter in all the wrong places.
“Reduction in habitat for possums is a big concern,” ACT Wildlife commented on Facebook.

Thankfully, the ACT Wildlife crew found him just in time to extract him from the nesting box. Once he woke up from his anesthesia-induced nap at the clinic, Bob was relieved to be freed from the wooden enclosure.
He soon received a clean bill of health and returned to the wild to continue his search for a comfortable home.

It’s been a few days since Bob’s release, and the folks at ACT Wildlife thankfully haven’t encountered him since. While they’ll always be available to help if need be, the team is hopeful that seeing no signs of Bob means he’s finally found the right home.
“All worked out, though, and Bob was released to hopefully choose better housing,” ACT Wildlife wrote.
