Super League

Hull KR are the clear favourites to be victorious at Old Trafford this October, according to the bookies. That won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has watched Super League this season, with the Robins being the best team the league has had to offer so far.

They won the Challenge Cup last month and as it stands they’re four points clear in the race for the League Leaders’ Shield. However, the bookies are backing them to lift the Super League trophy this autumn too and become just the fifth team to do so.

They’re at evens to go one better than last season and win the Grand Final and that makes them the outright favourites for glory.

Wigan Warriors started the year with that favourites tag and they held onto that for much of the season, despite the Robins’ dominance.
However, they’re now at 6/4 to retain their title, putting them ever so slightly behind Willie Peters’ side in the bookies’ eyes.

That’s after losing three of their last five games and with eight games to play, they find themselves sitting just a point above Leigh Leopards, who have been the surprise package of the year so far.

Adrian Lam’s side have beaten the top two and St Helens in their last three games and for many they are now considered dark horses to win the competition. However, that isn’t quite reflected in the Betfred odds list with the Leopards fourth favourites at 11/1.

That’s behind Leeds Rhinos, who are at 10/1 despite sitting a point and a place behind the Leopards in the current Super League table. Leeds’ Grand Final previous might be something to do with that, while St Helens, who occupy fifth spot after their loss to Leigh last Thursday are at 12/1.

The bookmakers seem to be firmly sat on the fence when it comes to the final team to make the play-offs, with Wakefield Trinity, Hull FC and Warrington Wolves all priced at 50/1 to win the Grand Final.

Hull are in the driving seat at present but Wakefield have the opportunity to move back into the top six on Thursday when they take on Leeds at Belle Vue. That battle is set to go down to the wire, it seems, with just three points separating the trio at the time of writing.
