St Mirren have announced the signing of Miguel Freckleton from Sheffield United as they continue to build a squad for the upcoming Premiership campaign.

The 22-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

He joins the Buddies following a season-long loan at Swindon Town in England’s League Two.

Stephen Robinson confirmed earlier that there would be no transfer fee but Sheffield United would receive a percentage of any future sale.

The St Mirren said: Manager Stephen Robinson said: “Miguel is someone whose career we have watched develop.

“We feel that he is someone similar to Richard Taylor. He’s got good attributes and is really quick. He’s still got lots to learn, but at 21 he’s played nearly 100 games and we’ll continue to work with him.

“He’s someone who will get better with more football and will become a big asset for ourselves.

“He comes in to fight for a place, and I believe makes us a lot stronger.”
