Derek Chisora has been speaking about Daniel Dubois‘s chances against in-form heavyweight Joseph Parker.
Dubois is the former IBF world champion, having been beaten once again by now two-time undisputed heavyweight legend Oleksandr Usyk this past weekend.
Dubois never got a foothold in the fight, was eating crisp jabs from round one and eventually got put down and then stopped inside five rounds by the Ukrainian great. It’s the second time they have fought following a first match in Poland in August 2023 in which Dubois was stopped inside nine rounds.
Before this past weekend’s fight he went on a solid run that saw him stop a trio of fighters, including Anthony Joshua last September.
Speaking to Seconds Out after the fight, fellow heavyweight contender Chisora first expressed his view that ‘DDD’ will win another world title.
“He will be a two-time world champion, don’t worry about that. I’m not bothered about that. He will win a world title again.”
However, he doesn’t back the Brit to beat one man in the division if they were to meet
“Listen, can he beat Joseph Parker? No.”
This pair was first set to fight back in February but Dubois had to pull out late in the day on fight week due to illness, so instead Parker knocked out late stand-in Martin Bakole inside two rounds. Back then, Chisora had predicted a Dubois stoppage in the match-up.
Right now, Parker is on a fine run that also includes points victories over former world champion Deontay Wilder and big Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang. As such, he is the WBO mandatory, and he has now been ordered to face Usyk, though whether or not it happens or the Ukrainian vacates the belt remains to be seen.
