San Marino RTV, the Sammarinese national broadcaster, has not made a decision yet around their participation in Eurovision 2026.

During a press conference in Rome, Roberto Sergio, General Director of San Marino RTV, has stated that they are yet to decide whether San Marino should take part in the next Eurovision Song Contest in Austria. At the basis of the decision, Sergio mentions perplexities regarding the voting methods of the juries and of the televoters at home. This also entailed continuous, daily discussions with the EBU and the organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest.

At the same time, the General Director recognised the added value that the participation to Eurovision events has brought to the country, and the success of San Marino Song Contest, the national selection that the broadcaster launched last year.

Prompted by a question from a journalist, Sergio also emphasised that the EBU has anticipated new voting methods for both the semi-finals and the final. The EBU has not shied away from dialogue. However, they still have not found common ground.

Gabry Ponte represented San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with “Tutta l’Italia”. He brought San Marino to its first appearance in a final since 2021. In the final, San Marino placed 26th, scoring 27 points, including 12 points from the Italian televote.

San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. Miodio represented San Marino on their debut with the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi-final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then, the country has participated annually. San Marino first qualified for the final in 2014 and has gone on to qualify for the final on three further occasions, most recently in 2025.
