Bayonne confirmed her affinity for speed with a solid victory Friday over the straightaway at Palermo, capturing the Hyperion Handicap (1000m, muddy dirt) to complete the day’s stakes double at the Hipódromo Argentino.

A daughter of Puerto Escondido, Bayonne began her career targeting middle distances, but has steadily found consistency in sprints. A winner of the Clásico Diego M. Argüello and runner-up in the Clásico Caballerizas Argentinas—both at La Plata—she had no trouble dispatching the only three rivals that faced her, after Saya Linda (Legión de Honor) was scratched at the gate.

Carrying 57 kilos for Stud Pitico, Bayonne allowed Tormenta China (Malenchini, 57) to set the pace before moving up confidently mid-race. She took over without resistance and drew off to a commanding four-length win over the favored Realizada Cat (Hurricane Cat, 57.5), who failed to fire this time. Final time: 55.96.

Bred by Haras Embrujo, trained by Carlos Domingo, and confidently ridden by Gonzalo Borda, Bayonne is firmly establishing herself as a force in the sprint division—and may be ready for even greater challenges.
