Newcastle United have been urged to copy Liverpool’s approach in the transfer market after agreeing a new deal.
The Reds recently hijacked Newcastle’s move to sign Hugo Ekitike, luring the Frenchman to Anfield for a fee of around £79million.
Ekitike wasn’t the first transfer target that the Magpies have missed out on this summer, with Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo, and James Trafford all going elsewhere.
Amid the disappointment, Newcastle have made a change to their transfer department, bringing in Atlanta’s Sudarshan Gopaladesikan as their new technical director.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Gopaladesikan needs to replicate Liverpool’s recipe for success.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that it is incredibly important that Newcastle’s new technical director presents his research on transfers in a clear format.

Gopaladesikan is currently working without a sporting director or CEO above him, as the Magpies look to fill the two vacant positions.
Wyness added that Liverpool have done so well in terms of transfer research in recent years, which has contributed to their success.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “In that sort of position, you’ve got to learn very quickly what, or at least how you present your findings to the managers above you, whether it be Eddie Howe on the football side or whether it be PIF on the financial side.
“You’ve got to learn quickly what their hot spots are, and how they like to see things, and what you need to do to get things across the line. So that’s the learning curve Gopaladesikan has to go through. It’s very different.
“Each chief executive, each chairman, each football manager all have different views on data and the danger is different interpretations of data and that’s where you’ve got to have a united approach.
“The technical director has to be skilled, not only at doing the research but in how he presents that research and what he actually sees in the numbers.
“That’s a big skill and that’s where I think Liverpool have done well, but it’s the danger as much as the opportunity in this whole data-driven AI approach that we’re seeing coming into football. So those are the only words of caution I’d give about it.”

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Newcastle United believe Eddie Howe is partly to blame for their horrific summer transfer window.
Those with inside knowledge of the situation have told Football Insider that the manager’s “indecisiveness” is privately seen as one of their main problems in getting deals over the line
Football Insider reported on 4th July that Howe has been left frustrated by their failure to land key targets and strengthen his Newcastle squad.
The boss, as well as a number of senior figures at St James’ Park, believe a so-called “Saudi Tax” has had a negative impact on their ability to agree deals.
