Leeds United are currently working on multiple transfer files, both incoming and outgoing.

In that mix, the future of Isaac Schmidt hasn’t really been one of the major concerns for the newly promoted Premier League side.

The Whites signed the 25-year-old a year ago for around €3m from FC. St Gallen 79. However, as Daniel Farke’s side pushed their way to promotion, Schmidt didn’t have much involvement and managed just 71 minutes across 12 Championship games and started two Emirates FA Cup games, playing 180 minutes.

At the beginning of this month the player’s agent made it clear an exit was on the agenda this summer, with the defender hoping to play a part should Switzerland qualify for the World Cup.

Baykal Bellusci told the Swiss media: “Isaac played as a left-back for a long time, and we discussed with the club that there was a larger market for the right-back position. The decision to switch Isaac to the right led to the transfer and his call-up to the national team.

“He has developed, matured as a player, and proven himself with the national team. In a World Cup year, the top priority shouldn’t be to focus on finances. Instead, it’s all about one thing: Where can I play the most games to prove myself? I’m convinced we’ll find a very good solution for him this summer.”

Patrick Berger now reports Werder Bremen have reached an agreement in principle with the Leeds United player. The Bundesliga club want a loan and are currently negotiating that with the Premier League club.

It’s unclear whether the move will include an option or obligation to buy, and Daniel Farke is said to want a replacement secured before Schmidt goes.
