Lorena Wiebes is inevitable. The European champion from SD Worx-Protime won the third stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, besting Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) to the line. Ally Wollaston (FDJ-Suez) finished third on the day.

With her second place on the stage, Vos reclaimed the yellow jersey from Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal), who was held up in a crash with 3.4 km to go.

Vos enjoying her time in yellow on the way to the start of stage 2; she’ll get to wear it again for stage 4.How it happened

  • The start of the stage was rapid, with quite a few riders hoping to get in the day’s breakaway. A move of four, including Canadian champion Alison Jackson (EF Education-Oatly), Chilean national champion Catalina Anais Soto (Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi) and Spanish champion Sara Martín (Movistar), succeeded in gaining over two minutes on the peloton within 30 km of the start. Behind, a few riders tried to jump up the road and join the four-person move, but were brought back.
  • SD Worx-Protime were happy to control the peloton in anticipation of a sprint. They let the breakaway extend their advantage, but as the finish line drew closer, they started to chip away at that time.
  • A crash with 35 km to go took down a number of riders and split the peloton. Everyone was, thankfully, able to hop back on their bikes, and the splits came back together, but the nerves in the peloton were palpable.
