Psycho Artificial Intelligence (AI) can now evolve without human control or input and is set to destroy the tech jobs market, a former Google boss has said. Eric Schmidt told the Special Competitive Studies Project, the think tank he founded, how AI systems are beginning to operate independently and no longer need humans to learn, improve and plan.
The comments will sound alarm bells for those fearing AI will bring about the end of humanity in a Terminator-style Skynet take over. Last week an AI model told the Daily Star how it will seize control of the world and dominate humanity.
Mr Schmidt explained when Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) will hit and change the world forever and how AI will replace the “vast majority” of computer programmers within one year. He said: “We believe, as an industry, the vast majority of programmers will be replaced by AI programmers.

“What happens in two years? I have just told you about reasoning, programming and math. Programming and math are sort of the basis of our whole digital world.
“The evidence and the claims from the research groups in OpenAI and Anthropic and so forth is that there is now somewhere around 10% or 20% of the code that they are developing in the research programmes is being generated by the computer.
“That’s called recursive self-improvement.”
He added: “What happens when this thing starts to scale? Well, a lot. One way to say this is that within three to five years, we’ll have what is called general intelligence (AGI), which can be defined as a system that is as smart as the smartest mathematician, physicist, artist, writer, thinker and politician.
“I call this the San Francisco consensus because everyone who believes this is in San Francisco. What happens when every single one of us has the equivalent of the smartest human on every problem in our pocket?”

The tech titan, who led Google from 2001 to 2011, added the incoming changes to society are not understood because the language to explain it does not exist. He said: “In the next year or two, this foundation is being locked in and we are not going to stop it. The computers are now doing self-improvement. They are learning how to plan and they don’t have to listen to us anymore.
“We call that Artificial Super Intelligence or ASI. This is the theory there will be computers that are smarter than the sum of humans. The San Francisco consensus is that this occurs within six years based on scaling.
“This path is not understood in our society. There is no language for what happens with the arrival of this. That’s why it is under hyped.
“People do not understand what happens with you have intelligence at this level which is largely free.”
