The Tour de France 2025 has delivered action on all sides and it is safe to say that every single rider that has won fully deserved it and had to go to the very maximum against such competition. In this race Tadej Pogacar has won a fourth yellow jersey, four stages and much more. However, under the radar, he has just made Tour history once again due to a different jersey.

Pogacar has won the mountains classification at this Tour, although he only briefly wore the jersey on the opening week and although he didn’t seek out the mountain points. On stages like Mont Ventoux and La Plagne, in fact it seemed like quite the opposite, with the Slovenian actively seeking to not obtain the maximum points he could – whilst in the first week, Tim Wellens went on to take KOM points on some days to relieve Pogacar of podium duties on a couple of days.

However the points system favours the GC riders, and although Lenny Martínez tried his best throughout the race through breakaways to get as many points as possible, it was only enough to finish third behind a Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard that were focused on the yellow jersey.

Pogacar has, for the third time in his career, won the overall and KOM classifications in the same Tour. The only time he did not was 2024, however he has become the first rider in history to win both in the same edition. The record of two occasions had been held by Fausto Coppi and Eddy Merckx but over 50 years later, a rider has managed to do it on three occasions (with the 2020 and 2021 races also being won by him). At age 26, there is a good chance that the World Champion may still improve on a record that is now only his.
