BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - JULY 23: Flowers, candles, drinks and messages in memory of Ozzy Osbourne are left on the Black Sabbath Bridge bench on Broad Street on July 23, 2025 in Birmingham, England. Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary rock icon and Black Sabbath frontman, died on Tuesday, aged 76, after performing a farewell show in his hometown of Birmingham earlier this month. Over the course of his storied career as a singer-songwriter and media personality, he brought home five Grammy Awards and was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - once as a member of Black Sabbath, and again as a solo artist. A week after Ozzy Osbourne sadly passed away (Tuesday, July 22), we prepare for the Prince of Darkness’ funeral in Birmingham (Wednesday, July 30). We’ve already seen an outpouring of grief and tributes across Birmingham and the world, but the Second City will pay its final respects in the city centre tomorrow.

Less than a month after Black Sabbath’s farewell show at Villa Park, we wave goodbye to Ozzy Osbourne. His hearse and accompanying vehicles are scheduled to slowly make their way down Broad Street towards the Black Sabbath Bridge and Bench—which is already adorned with flowers, messages, football shirts and more.

The funeral procession will be accompanied by a live brass band performance by local musicians from Bostin’ Brass. This final musical moment honouring Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy, who was also recently given the Freedom of the City, is sure to be full of the singer’s greatest hits.

“Ozzy was more than a music legend; he was a son of Birmingham,” said The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, JP. “Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral.

“We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We’re proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city in giving him the farewell he deserves.”

When is the Ozzy Osbourne funeral procession?

The cortege will travel down Broad Street from approximately 1pm towards the Black Sabbath Bridge. Broad Street will be closed to through traffic from 7am, with buses and trams diverted during this time, and will reopen as soon as possible. The event is expected to draw large crowds, but if you can’t make it, a live stream of the Black Sabbath bench will be available to watch online here.
