Leeds United’s owners have two transfer plans in place for the summer: one for the Premier League and one for the Championship.

Over the last few weeks it’s not been clear which league Leeds United would be playing in next season. But after Leeds United’s 2-1 win over Preston North End last time out, it’s now looking like it’ll be Premier League for Daniel Farke’s side next time round.

The 49ers will watch on as Leeds take on Oxford United on Friday in a game that could all but secure their return to the Premier League after a two year hiatus. Indeed all eyes will be on 3rd place Sheffield United and their result against Cardiff City.

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett is hoping to cause Leeds United an upset on Friday as his plucky side look to secure their Championship status for another year: they’ve won three of their last five including a 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

But for Leeds United, promotion lies within their hands now. A couple more wins and they could be there and then, their summer transfer plans can finally get underway.

Speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed how Leeds United have a summer plan in place for if they’re promoted and another for if they remain a Championship side. Bailey also states that those behind the scenes at Elland Road realise they’ve a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window.

He said: “Leeds have had a two-pronged summer plan for much of this season – one Premier League and one Championship. They are very hopeful it is the Premier League plan. And yes they realise, they need to do work.

“Their current squad has a number of areas that need addressing: left-back, no.10, a striker and goalkeeper are the big ones, but I think we see half-a-dozen players come in. They will also be leaning on RedBull for their European knowledge, don’t underestimate that could be a big help to them this summer.”

How Leeds United might use RedBull connections in the summer transfer window

RedBull are minority owners at Leeds United. It gives the Whites a very useful connection in global football and in European football in particular with RedBull clubs’ overall functionality often hailed. 49ers president Paraag Marathe previously revealed how RedBull could help Leeds United’s transfer plans going forward.

Bailey’s comments may suggest that Leeds United could look to call upon the RedBull scouting network this summer rather than target players at other RedBull clubs, though one or two have been linked with move to West Yorkshire this season.

The last was Adam Daghim at RB Salzburg. Reports earlier in the year revealed that Leeds United were keeping tabs on Daghim but the link has been very cold since.

Leeds United’s game against Oxford United kicks off at 8pm on Saturday.
