Leeds United are set to shift their focus to a new target after missing out on Igor Paixao.
The Brazilian had been Daniel Farke’s ideal option for the left wing, and Leeds had looked to be close to agreeing a deal with PSV.
But a move to Ligue 1 club Marseille had always been Paixao’s preference, and the French club have now finally agreed a deal to sign the winger.
With the season opener rapidly approaching, Leeds will be aware that they cannot afford to lick their transfer wounds with a signing on the left still required.

Paixao would have undeniably represented a huge coup for Farke and Leeds.
The winger scored 18 goals and provided 19 assists for PSV last season, boasting a highlight reel of incredible long-range efforts.
The prospect of the Brazilian’s arrival at Elland Road was hugely exciting for Leeds fans, but there was always an awareness of the 25-year-old’s preference.
Marseille enjoyed a successful season in France last season and offer Champions League football, a factor that ultimately proved decisive for Paixao.
The long and fruitless saga will have frustrated decision-makers at Leeds, but with the requirement of a signing on the left still outstanding, alternative targets must be acted upon.
Solomon’s impact must be replaced
Interest in Manor Solomon is obvious, given the winger’s successful loan in the Championship last season, but Tottenham are yet to express any intention in selling the 26-year-old.
Another potential target under consideration is Strasbourg’s Dilane Bakwa, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post (29 July).
The 22-year-old featured more prominently on the right for the Ligue 1 side last season, but is capable of playing on the left.
Bakwa presents interesting alternative for Leeds
Bakwa is different in style to Paixao. The Frenchman is more often seen sticking to the touchline and beating his man, rather than receiving the ball centrally.
But once in the final third, the 22-year-old can be just as effective – scoring six goals and providing nine assists last season in Ligue 1.
There is much to be said for the age difference, too. Bakwa, whilst currently less productive than Paixao in a, albeit, stronger league, could well surpass the Brazilian in the coming years.
