Carlos Alcaraz is preparing for a return to the hard courts following his loss in the 2025 Wimbledon final.

The Spaniard surrendered his Wimbledon title to his great rival Jannik Sinner, losing in four sets on Centre Court.

Following his visit to south London, Alcaraz confirmed he would miss the Canadian Open. The 22-year-old is one of a few high-profile names missing from the tournament, including Jack Draper, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.

As for the Cincinnati Open, Alcaraz has reached the final once before, losing to Novak Djokovic in a marathon three-set match in 2023. It is the only Masters 1000 final he has lost in eight appearances.

On Monday, the Spaniard was spotted training at the La Manga Club Resort in Spain, where he was working on two specific areas of his game in preparation for Cincinnati and the US Open.

Carlos Alcaraz’s all-court game is undisputed. The Spaniard has demonstrated extensive consistency on both groundstrokes, a competent serve, and an ability to mix in an effective drop-shot when required.

However, the Spaniard has been seen working on another area of his game ahead of the Cincinnati Open.

German Abril, a sports journalist, spotted Alcaraz at the La Manga Club Resort in Spain. He revealed that the 22-year-old French Open champion was working on his net approaches and passing shots.

On X [Twitter], Abril said: “Completed another day of training for Carlos Alcaraz at La Manga Club, today with a special focus on net approaches and passing shots.”

Alcaraz has few weaknesses, if any. His mastery of all facets on a tennis court is remarkable considering his age, and the fact that his best years are yet to come.

With an additional rest period following his withdrawal in Canada, Alcaraz will be well-rested and rejuvenated when taking a shot at claiming his first Cincinnati Open title.

It may be somewhat surprising to see Alcaraz working on his net approaches when considering his strong performances at the net during the French Open and Wimbledon finals.

However, this is the life of a professional tennis player. They must work on all areas of their game, even their strengths.
