JAKARTA – The Ministry of Communication and Digital has officially opened an auction for the selection of users of the 1.4 GHz radio frequency band for broadband wireless access services (Broadband Wireless Access).

Along with the increasing need for reliable and affordable connectivity, this step was taken to expand the internet’s reach to remain and support equal distribution of digital transformation throughout Indonesia.

“This step not only opens up space for network operators to increase service capacity and coverage, but also expands the choice of internet access that is more affordable to the public,” said Director General of Digital Infrastructure of the Ministry of Communication and Industry Wayan Toni Supriyanto.

The implementation of this selection is based on the Decree of the Minister of Communication and Digital Number 337 of 2025 concerning the Selection of Users of the Radio Frequency Band 1.4 GHz for the 2025 Broadband Wireless Access (Broadband Access) Wireless Access.

As for Komdigi, he said, he would open a frequency selection of 1.4 GHz with a bandwidth of 80 MHz which is in the frequency range 1427 – 1518 MHz which is divided into 14 zones.

Selection is held openly for all telecommunications operators who already have a permit according to the requirements.

The selection stage will be carried out objectively and transparently, through an administrative evaluation mechanism and evaluation of network and service development commitments.

Our focus is on ensuring that this frequency band is utilized optimally to increase the reach and quality of internet services based on fixed wideband networks, including in areas that have not been served optimally,” he added.

The 1.4 GHz frequency band is a frequency intended for the deployment of broadband wireless access networks (Broadband Wireless Access), especially with Time Division Duplex (TDD) technology.
