A woman in her 20s has been arrested on suspicion of arson, after a fire in a block of flats in Bristol – which activated the sprinkler system and left water gushing from the building.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, July 30, where water was pouring from a third-storey window.

The sprinkler system successfully extinguished the fire, but also left the building flooded.

And at around the same time, a woman was arrested outside on the street on suspicion of committing arson and criminal damage.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We received a call from the fire service at around 4.10pm to a residential property in Mary Bush Lane, Bristol.

“Fire crews found significant flooding caused by a sprinkler which was set off by a small fire inside a flat.
