Hull KR have gone about their business early once again, re-signing a player to a new long-term deal following a strong start to life at Craven Park.
The Robins have confirmed that they have signed hooker Bill Leyland to a new and extended contract with the 22-year-old committing to the club until the end of the 2028 season.
Hull KR had signed Leyland from London Broncos ahead of the 2025 season, taking a chance on the youngster who didn’t feature for London last year in Super League on account of his injury.
Prior to that injury, Leyland was one of the standouts in their promotion campaign and that saw the Robins sign him up and he’s impressed during his maiden campaign.
Initially signed until the end of next season, Leyland has signed a new three-year deal which ties him to the club until the end of the 2028 season.
Hull KR sign Bill Leyland to new contract
It’s a key piece of retention given the fact that hooker Micky McIlorum is off-contract and expected to retire at the end of the year, meaning Leyland will be the deputy for Jez Litten.
Confirming Leyland’s new deal, Hull KR released a statement: “Hull KR are delighted to announce that young hooker, Bill Leyland has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him at Sewell Group Craven Park until the end of the 2028 Betfred Super League season.”
Having debuted in March, Leyland has gone on to make ten appearances but the club have seen enough to back him for the next three years and that’s something that’s delighted Leyland.
He said: “I’m really happy to resign with Hull KR, Hull has become a real second home to me.
“I was targeting to play this season and so far, I’ve had the opportunity to show what I can bring to Hull KR in the next three years. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and even more grateful for the guidance that Micky (McIlorum) and Jez (Litten) have shown me this year.”
Leyland, who is still only 22, added:
“They’ve helped me with my general passing and skill, deception and knowing when to run and not to run. They’ve really taken me under their wing.
“It’s been a great experience so far at Hull KR, I’ve been pleased with how it’s gone and I want to keep improving over the next three years.”
Hull KR Head Coach, Willie Peters added: “We’re pleased Bill has signed a new deal with the club. We believe Bill’s best years are ahead of him.
“He’s still within the early stages of his development as a Super League player and it’s up to Bill with how far he wants to go with his career with what he puts into it.”
