Dramatic footage revealed the moment a van exploded into flames on a street in Rochdale on Wednesday afternoon (July 30).

Emergency services raced to the scene after the white van erupted into roaring flames off Market Street in Heywood at around 1.55pm.

Huge plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing from the area as the front cab of the van became engulfed by the fire.

In the footage, shared online, an alarm can be heard sounding in the background before fire crews attended the scene to put out the blaze.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance for around 50 minutes as the fire was extinguished.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At shortly before 1.55pm on Wednesday (July 30) one fire engine from Heywood fire station was called to a van on fire off Market Street, Heywood.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Crews were in attendance for around 50 minutes.”
