Ryanair slashes capacity in France and axes flights to three airports – Travel Gossip

Ryanair is cutting capacity in France by 13% this winter and axing flights to three French airports after the country increased tax on airfares.

It has confirmed that more than 750,000 seats will be cut and 25 routes are being scrapped.

Ryanair will stop serving Bergerac, Brive and Strasbourg entirely. It will reduce operations in Marseille by 9%, Paris-Beauvais by 8% and Toulouse by 4%.

The airline currently flies from London Stansted to Brive, and from Bournemouth, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Stansted to Bergerac.

Its twice-weekly flights to Brive are available to book only till 24 October; the twice-weekly Bournemouth to Bergerac service is available to book until 23 October, with the Bristol service, which also operates two times per week, on sale until 29 September.

East Midlands to Bergerac, which runs three times per week, can be booked until 31 August. Its Edinburgh service is running until 25 October, with its twice-weekly Liverpool route bookable until 24 October. Its daily Stansted service is bookable till 28 October.

Ryanair does not fly between the UK and Strasbourg.

The decision to axe flights from the three airports follows Ryanair’s decision to pull out of Bordeaux in November 2024 following a dispute over airport fees.

Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer Jason McGuinness said: “While France should be concentrating on regaining growth, Ryanair has no other choice than to reduce its capacity for the winter by 13% because of the failure of the French government to act against this harmful tax on flying – which it increased by 180% earlier this year.

“It is unacceptable that a large European country like France has fallen behind the rest of the EU, with air traffic still below that of before Covid, because of excessive taxes and security costs imposed by the government which make a number of regional French lines unprofitable, especially in winter.”

The tax for passengers flying to the UK from France is €12.11.
