Increasing the kerbside appeal of the North Street campus is the goal of a revamp proposal now lodged with the local authority.

LCB, which will have its new branding on the exteriors should planning be approved, is working with Fuse Studios and WSP on the project.

The plans were validated on 10 July, and include the removal of an existing entrance canopy; creation of new glazed canopy and clad entrance portal; along with new cladding to second over-sailing second floor facades and painted fascias.

Also included in the scheme are an update for the existing first floor side extension, with horizontal sun breakers to windows and painted fascia and mullions.

As set out in Fuse’s design & access statement, “the project brief called for the ‘kerbside appeal’ of the building to be improved as the existing design has become dated & tired.

“The desire is for a quality entrance design and façade improvement, of a contemporary nature, which would enhance the buildings prominence and visibility from North Street and Byron Street.”

Fuse said that as well as freshening up the two main facades, the intension is for the improvements to be in a similar style to the newer South Bank campus:

“To provide some cohesion between the LCB North and South campus. It is also proposed to install new external signage, both on the building and on totem signs, as the South Bank campus.”

The building is not listed, or in a conservation area. Statutory consultation is now open, with the plans available to view on Leeds City Council’s planning portal with the reference 25/03859/FU.
