Heavy downpours hit the south coast earlier today, with areas in Southampton and the New Forest among those affected.

Shocking footage shows rainwater pooling outside the entrance of Tesco in Applemore.

The supermarket giant remained open despite the thundery showers, with shoppers seen entering and leaving the shop.

A video taken by Glenn McDermott captured the water filling the car park at the store near Hythe this afternoon.

The water was particularly deep near the entrance, with the wheels of a couple of shopping trollies completely submerged.

Shoppers could be seen trying to avoid the large expanse of water outside Tesco as they left the shop.

“I have reported the areas I am aware of but if anyone is affected, please report it to Hampshire County Council.

“The more reports they receive the better and they will hopefully come clear the drains quickly.

“Please drive carefully especially near people’s properties to avoid pushing surface water toward people’s homes.”
