Charlie Malarkey’s New Earswick Boxing (KO) for Kindness club building is well underway on the outskirts of the city, and they have just received a very welcome donation of £1,000 from the York Butchers’ Gild, which has been helping organisations for more than 800 years.

Starting out life in medieval times, the York guilds are now charities, raising money from their members to fund the support good causes, as well as the upkeep of their assets, such as the magnificent Merchant Taylors’ Hall and Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in York.
The New Earswick Sports Club, which aims to get people off the streets and give them a purpose in life, is partially complete with the roof and floor the next big projects.
Charlie has worked for the Salvation Army for 17 years and leads its early intervention and prevention team in York.
He said the next phase of the build will be to complete the floor – with about £70,000 still to raise in order to complete the build.
