It is an interesting time for the WTA Tour with several young stars coming through.

One of the best of the group is Mirra Andreeva, who is inside the world’s top five and has claimed back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Dubai.

Despite being on tour since 2019, Coco Gauff, 21, is still one of the game’s young players and she now has two Grand Slam titles to her name.

But there is another young player who has started to make waves on the women’s circuit and she has been tipped for sustained success by an iconic coach.

One of the breakout stars of the 2025 season is Victoria Mboko.

This season the 18-year-old won five ITF titles, broke into the WTA’s top 100 and reached the third round of the French Open.

She is now into the fourth round of the Canadian Open after coming from a set down to beat Marie Bouzková in the third round.

Ahead of her round of 16 encounter, Serena Williams’s former coach Rick Macci is impressed by Mboko’s game and thinks will become a top five player on tour.

“Victoria Mboko has top five in her back pocket because off the ground consistently fires a smooth rocket,” Macci said.

“Only 18 with unlimited raw ability and on the run hits with great balance and agility.”

Mboko will face one of the toughest tests of her career so far when she takes on Coco Gauff.

The American is the top seed in Montreal due to the absence of world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff needed three sets to win both her matches against Danielle Collins and Veronika Kudermetova in Canada.

Furthermore, she is struggling with double faults, as Gauff has hit a combined total of 37 double faults at the Canadian Open.

On the other hand, she will feel confident in her game and Mboko will relish the challenge of facing Gauff for the first time, especially on home soil.
