A man has been jailed in connection with the death of a pensioner following a horror crash in Ayrshire.

Blair Jardine, 31, pled guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving at the High Court in Edinburgh today, Friday, August 1.

An HGV driven by Jardine collided with an MG car on the A70 at Ochiltree in East Ayrshire at around 1:30pm on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

An 88-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but sadly died six days later on Monday, June 10.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, was also rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “This was a completely avoidable crash that had devastating consequences for the family and loved ones of both women. Jardine’s actions showed a clear disregard for the safety of others on the road. “We hope this outcome brings some degree of closure to the families of those involved and serves as a stark reminder of the responsibility every road user to drive in safe manner.”
