Chuba Akpom has three years remaining on his contract at Ajax
Birmingham City have reportedly held talks with Ajax over the possibility of signing forward Chuba Akpom on loan.
Reputable Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claims Blues have made an approach to sign Akpom on a season-long loan with an option-to-buy but Ajax’s preference is to secure a guaranteed sale.
Akpom, who will turn 30 in October, moved to the Netherlands two years ago after a goal-laden season in the Championship with Middlesbrough which saw him net 28 goals in 40 matches to claim the Golden Boot.
He scored 11 goals in 25 Eredivisie games in his first season at Ajax before falling out of favour last term.
Akpom scored eight goals in 32 appearances furing the first half of last season for Ajax, including four in the Europa League, before being shipped out to French side Lille in January.
He managed three goals in 14 games for Lille in Ligue 1 and they declined their option to purchase the former Arsenal trainee on a permanent basis.
Ajax are looking to offload Akpom this summer and Blues have emerged as a potential suitor but the two clubs appear to be some way apart at present.
Blues are still looking to bolster their forward line and Akpom is capable of operating at centre-forward or in the number 10 position.
Chris Davies has already added Kyogo Furuhashi to his striking options and Blues have been heavily linked with Germany international Marvin Ducksch.
Akpom signed a five-year contract when he joined Ajax from Middlesbrough in 2023, meaning his deal has three years to run in Amsterdam.
