Jaron Ennis is set to debut in his new weight division very soon.
‘Boots’ became unified world champion at welterweight after wins over the likes of Eimantas Stanionis and David Avanesyan saw him capture the IBF and WBA titles at 147lbs.
He has now vacated those belts, and will be competing at super-welterweight from now on, with his first bout in the 154lb weight class expected to take place later this year.
A number of potential opponents have been touted for Ennis, but now a reigning world champion has welcome the opportunity to defend his crown against ‘Boots.’
Sebastian Fundora is the reigning WBC super-welterweight champion, and standing at 6ft 6in, is currently the tallest world champion in the entire sport.
He recently put in the best performance of his career when he claimed a seventh round retirement victory over Tim Tszyu at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Speaking to DAZN ahead of that bout, Fundora was asked who he’d like to face next, and while he was open to anybody, he admitted that a clash against Ennis seriously interests him.
“Whoever comes. Whoever is the better decision at the time. Ennis is a champion, he’s already a champion, a unified champion, so we’ll see. Whoever looks nice.
“Maybe the Ennis fight because he’s already a unified champion and established already.”
Fundora isn’t the only big name to be interested in a fight against Ennis, with knockout artist Vergil Ortiz also making it clear that he would love to face ‘Boots.’
