Canelo Alvarez has revealed who he believes to be the better fighter between former foe Dmitry Bivol and future opponent Terence Crawford.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara suffered the second defeat of his career to Bivol when they clashed back in 2022, falling short in his attempt at dethroning the Russian superstar of his WBA world light-heavyweight title.

Canelo would make the move back down to 168lbs after this loss, where he currently reigns as the undisputed champion and is set to make a defence of his crown against Terence Crawford in just over one month.

The pound-for-pound stars are set to do battle on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, as ‘Bud’ sets his sights on becoming the first three-division undisputed champion of the modern era.

In a feature with The Ring Magazine, where he was tasked with staying silent until he heard the name of a better fighter than Terence Crawford, the Mexican icon did in fact keep quiet when Bivol’s name was read out, confirming that he believes the unbeaten American is a greater fighter than the Russian star, who has gone on to be undisputed in his division since their fight.

‘Bud’ Crawford will make his first appearance at 168lbs when he faces Canelo in September, having spent his recent years welterweight where he became undisputed champion when he defeated Errol Spence Jr two years ago.

Since then, the 37-year-old from Omaha has made a brief move up to super welterweight almost exactly one year ago, when he dethroned Israil Madrimov of the WBA crown at 154lbs in Los Angeles, California.
