Roy Jones Jr believes there is one fighter in boxing history that Floyd Mayweather Jr would have struggled to defeat.

‘Money’ Mayweather is widely considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, winning world titles in five weight classes throughout the course of his 21-year professional boxing career.

He won all 50 of his fights, defeating the likes of Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao. He retired on a win over Conor McGregor in a combat sports crossover spectacle the size of which has not been seen since.

Whilst ‘Money’ is commended for being one of the best defensive fighters to have ever laced up the gloves, four-division world champion and hall of fame inductee Jones told All The Smoke Fight the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard would have the beating of him.

“They don’t give Sugar enough credit, you understand me? They don’t give Sugar enough credit. So, for me, I like Floyd, and Floyd’s cool but its like, Floyd’s daddy didn’t really have a fight that close to Sugar, Sugar kind of did what he wanted to do with Floyd’s daddy and it’s going to be hard for me to see how they going to take it and beat Sugar. I mean they’d have to do something different that’s for sure.”

Similarly to Mayweather, ‘Sugar’ Ray is often regarded as being one of the greatest fighters of all time. He rose to fame during the 80s, dominating the sport alongside the likes of Roberto Duran, Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns, a quartet that would go on to be known as The Four Kings.

As Jones mentioned, Leonard stopped Floyd Mayweather Sr in the tenth round of their 1978 fight. Leonard himself has also used this as an example as to why he would beat the more talented son.
