The Canaries are preparing to confirm the permanent arrival of the 21-year-old after striking an agreement with the Imps on a deal that will be worth an initial £1.2m plus add-ons.

Makama was pictured at Carrow Road on Saturday and has undergone a medical ahead of joining up with Liam Manning’s Championship squad.

The prospective transfer is a proud moment for the League One club, according to their chief executive Liam Scully.

“We’ve not known for very long, to be honest. It’s happened very quickly. Nothing is done yet, but in the interest of all parties, the decision was made to pull Jovon from the squad today.

“Assuming this happens, we’re really pleased for Jovon and for everyone in the academy. It’s a great story for us,” Scully told BBC Radio Lincolnshire

“It’s nearly three times what would be the record fee for us, if it goes through. (North of £1m?) Yes. (North of £2m?) No.

“This is brilliant for the young man. It’s brilliant for so many people within our academy and coaching staff. The support, wrap-around care and mentoring that’s been given to Jovon in order to reach this point is a really nice moment.

“This is a really good day for Lincoln City. We’ve known Jovon for six years and watched him grow and mature – we have so much pride in him.”

Those sentiments are echoed by boss Michael Skubala, who played a key role in Makama’s involvement in the first team last season.

“I’ve just got off the back of the game, but I think everyone knows that we’ve had an offer. I don’t know whether it has progressed. This is what we are as a club. I’ve signed up to that and everyone else has signed up to that.

Jovon, if he goes and it does get through, what a proud moment for the club and Jove,” Skubala said. “It’s a proud moment for all of the players that have helped him on his journey. We wish him the best if it happens.

“Sometimes you have to give young players time and you have to water them in different ways. Everyone has supported him and helped him to progress. The most important person is himself and he’s developed.

“We’re going to miss him, not just as a player but as a person and a young man.”
