Chuba Akpom
Birmingham City’s transfer bid for Ajax’s Chuba Akpom is said to be facing another hijack attempt.
Blues looked to have beaten off late competition from Middlesbrough for the striker, with Akpom understood to be set for a medical at the club on Monday ahead of a transfer to St. Andrew’s.
But Sky Sports now report that Ipswich Town have made a last-minute approach to Ajax to try to strike a deal from under Birmingham’s nose.
Blues are reported to have struck a deal with Ajax to take Akpom on a season-long loan, with Sky reporting the deal will include an obligation to buy the player for £7m if they are promoted to the Premier League this season.
Signing Akpom would bolster Blues’ forward line following the departure of Alfie May. Blues currently have Jay Stansfield, Kyogo Furuhashi and Lyndon Dykes as their striking options.
